Project Overview
STEMStartHer is a web application that encourages more women to explore STEM careers and network with other women (also known as "Guides"). It was designed and developed by eight women (1 full-stack developer, 3 UI/UX Designer + Front-end Developer, 2 UI/UX Designer, and 1 Product Manager) who collaborated in a virtual one-week global hackathon hosted by The Expat Woman, where the theme was "Choose the Challenge."
Our team placed second out of five teams.
Challenge and Solution
The challenge was to create an application that would encourage more girls and women to step into STEM fields and empower them to achieve their full potential. We found inspiration from our own stories and our observations amongst our peers interested in transitioning into a STEM Career but not knowing who to turn to when we have questions and need advice. As a result, we created an online platform for women looking to connect with other women who have professional experiences in the STEM field.
